OTTO EDELMANN FOUNDATION

A foundation supporting the development of young singers

The goal of the Otto Edelmann Foundation

Young talented singers will be supported by the society in the form of giving concerts. These concerts will be presented by another well known professional singer already having an established career. These concerts are called ‘Patenkonzerte’, the literal translation being ‘god parent’ concerts. The already established singer will present a new and unknown young singer in the form of a concert where the young artist will be featured. In conclusion young singers are invited to partake in Master Classes held at the end of the season.

The Otto Edelmann Society was founded in April 2006 with the goal of honouring the living legacy of world renown baritone Otto Edelmann.

In June 2006 the first ‘Patenkonzert’ was presented by Peter Edelmann featuring young Mezzo Soprano Raia Lubomirova. More concerts followed suite in 2006/2007 with Donna Ellen and Dorsi Drechsel (featured singer), Hebert Lippert and Ana Puche Rosado (featured singer), Paul Armin Edlemann and Albertus Engelbrecht (featured singer) and Sebastian Rheintaller and Laura Scherwitzl (featured singer).

Auditions and Masterclasses

Auditions will be held three times a year. Exceptionally young talented singers will be selected and then invited to perform a solo concert program in a recital hall in Vienna. The young artist will not only perform solo repertoire but will also perform duet selections with the presenter or already established professional singer.

The OES foundation will assume all concert costs. These costs include: fees for the pianist, fees for the use of the recital hall and all fees for publicity and advertising. Currently the OES has circa seventy members. The membership fees are between thirty to fifty euros per year. The OES for young singers is supported by tax deductible contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations. It is dedicated to the support and encouragement of young singers. Any support you may have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Free Master Classes

The first Master Class auditions were held on June 2007. Twelve young singers were selected to attend our first Audition-Workshop series. This series included two days of intensive work concentrating on the preparation of auditions. The classes were instructed by Niels Muss (vocal coach), Dr.Andreas Kienzl (psycho analyst), Gloria Satéll (costume designer) and Erich Seitter (Agent). These classes were all free of cost. At the end of the Workshops a final gala concert was given by the singers. A prize of 500 Euros was awarded in the name of the ‘Public Prize’ to an outstanding young artist. Three of the twelve singers were then accepted by the Seiter Agency.
